I have dry hair, so I am always on the look out for things that will seal in the moisture for my hair. So I have seen a lot of posts on natural hair blogs and forums about using Crisco to seal in moisture. I was skeptical for a long time about the entire thing. I told the fiance about people using crisco in their hair, and he laughed about it. So today I made a mix of my own using Crisco and various other things to make a sealer for my twists that I put in today.
For the mix I used:
1/4 cup Crisco
6 drops of peppermint oil
2 tablespoons olive oil
A small squeeze of glycerin
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
A good amount of my Natty Moist conditioner
1 tablespoon eco styler argon gel
I then mixed them all together in my plastic container. I went and deep conditioned with my Aussie 3 minute miracle. Blotted my hair with a t-shirt, and applied my natty moist in my hair. I then applied the Crisco mix to my hair and it was so shiny and so soft. My curls instantly became defined. I then twisted my hair up in two strands all over my head. I plan on leaving the twists in my hair for a couple of days before I rock a nice twistout.
The mixture soaked into my hair very nicely. I have seriously been shaking my hair, all day since I finished my hair. I had twists in all night at work during my 12 hour shift, and my hair is still freaking moist. Do you know how amazing this is for me, it takes alot to keep this lions mane moist at least what I thought was moist. I now know the real definition of moisture retention and this is it. My hair has been missing out for some time now lol. I will try this again a few more times to ensure my hair is going to be some fluke. I will see by the end of the weekend if my hair is still feeling this Crisco miracle.
Have you tried any strange kitchen mixes and found out that your hair really loves it?
